FAR and DFARS › DFARS Part 201: Federal Acquisition Regulations System › Subpart 201.3
DFARS 201.301 Policy.
The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-02). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.
In plain English
This section explains that DoD implements and supplements the FAR through the DFARS, which contains legal requirements, DoD-wide policies, delegations of FAR authorities, deviations from the FAR, and policies or procedures with significant impact beyond internal DoD operations. It also notes that other relevant procedures, guidance, and information are issued separately in the DFARS PGI. For contractors, this matters because it defines where DoD-specific acquisition rules and deviations from the FAR are published and what types of policies appear in the DFARS versus the PGI.
Applies to: DoD acquisition policies and procedures under the DFARS
What it requires
- When Federal Register publication is required for any policy, procedure, clause, or form, the requesting department or agency must include an analysis of the public comments in the request for USD(A&S) approval.
