FAR and DFARS › DFARS Part 214: Sealed Bidding › Subpart 214.2
DFARS 214.209 Cancellation of invitations before opening.
The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-02). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.
In plain English
This section requires cancellation and re-solicitation when a bid invitation allowed fewer than 30 days for offers and received only one offer. The new solicitation must allow at least 30 additional days for receipt of offers. It matters because a contractor may see a solicitation cancelled and reissued with a longer response window.
Applies to: Contracting officers handling invitations for bids under DFARS
What it requires
- Cancel the invitation and resolicit
- Allow an additional period of at least 30 days for receipt of offers
Key terms: invitation for bids · cancellation · resolicit · receipt of offers
