FAR and DFARS › DFARS Part 225: Foreign Acquisition › Subpart 225.73
DFARS 225.7301-2 Solicitation approval for sole source contracts.
The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-02). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.
In plain English
This DFARS section requires contracting officers to coordinate through agency channels with the Principal Director, Defense Pricing, Contracting, and Acquisition Policy before issuing a solicitation for a sole source contract. It applies to sole source contracts for U.S./FMS combined requirements for a major system with an estimated contract value exceeding $500 million. This matters to contractors because it adds a required approval step before such a solicitation can be issued.
Applies to: Contracting officers issuing solicitations for certain sole source contracts
What it requires
- Coordinate through agency channels with the Principal Director, Defense Pricing, Contracting, and Acquisition Policy prior to issuing the solicitation
