The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-02). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.
In plain English
This section tells contracting officers when to include the Inspection of Transportation clause (52.246-14) in solicitations and contracts. It applies to freight transportation services by rail, motor, domestic freight forwarder, and domestic water carriers, but not to air carriers, international ocean carriers, bills of lading, or certain negotiated reduced-rate services. For contractors, it means the inspection clause will appear in covered transportation contracts.
Applies to: Solicitations and contracts for certain freight transportation services
Key terms: Inspection of Transportation · freight transportation services · local drayage · domestic freight forwarder · bills of lading
