FAR 5.206 Notices of subcontracting opportunities.

The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-02). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.

In plain English

This section allows certain contractors and subcontractors to post notices on the Governmentwide Point of Entry (GPE) to seek competition for subcontracts and to increase participation by various small business concerns. It also specifies what information these notices must contain. This matters because it provides a way for small businesses to learn about subcontracting opportunities and for contractors to meet their subcontracting plan goals.

Applies to: Contractors and subcontractors or suppliers under contracts exceeding the simplified acquisition threshold

What it requires

  • Describe the business opportunity in the notice
  • Describe any prequalification requirements in the notice
  • Describe where to obtain technical data needed to respond to the requirement in the notice

Key terms: GPE · simplified acquisition threshold · HUBZone small business · subcontracting plan goals · prequalification requirements
