FAR 52.216-20 Definite Quantity.
The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-02). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.
In plain English
This clause defines a definite-quantity, indefinite-delivery contract where the Government commits to ordering a specific quantity of supplies or services, and the Contractor must furnish them when ordered. It matters because it establishes the Contractor's obligation to fulfill orders up to that quantity and clarifies that orders may continue beyond the contract period under certain conditions.
Applies to: Contractors under definite-quantity, indefinite-delivery contracts
What it requires
- Furnish the specified quantity of supplies or services when ordered by the Government.
- Complete any order issued during the effective period but not completed within that time, within the time specified in the order.
- Make deliveries only up to the date inserted in paragraph (d).
