FAR and DFARS › FAR Part 52: Solicitation Provisions and Contract Clauses › Subpart 52.2
FAR 52.252-6 Authorized Deviations in Clauses.
The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-02). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.
In plain English
This clause explains how authorized deviations from FAR or supplemental clauses are marked in a solicitation or contract. When a clause is used with an authorized deviation, it keeps the same number, title, and date as the non-deviated version, but the word (DEVIATION) is added after the date. This matters because it tells contractors that a clause has been changed from its standard text.
Applies to: Solicitations and contracts that include any FAR or supplemental clause with an authorized deviation
What it requires
- Identify a deviated FAR or supplemental clause by the same number, title, and date assigned when used without deviation
- Include the regulation name for any supplemental clause
- Insert (DEVIATION) after the date of the clause
Key terms: authorized deviation · FAR clause · supplemental clause · DEVIATION · regulation name
