Landscaping and grounds maintenance government contracts
In fiscal year 2026, federal agencies obligated $536.59M on landscaping contracts so far (Defense contracts arrive about 90 days late, so the year's total is still rising). Department of Defense bought the most, followed by Department of Veterans Affairs. 23 landscaping contract opportunities are open now on SAM.gov, and 202 contracts worth $700.94M with options end in the next 12 months.
Mowing, grounds maintenance, tree work, irrigation and snow removal at military installations, national cemeteries, federal buildings and park and forest land.
Set-asides: at least 25% of FY2026's landscaping contract dollars ($136.25M) went through contracts set aside for small businesses, most through small business and service-disabled veteran-owned set-asides. Many orders under larger contracts carry no set-aside code, so this counts only what is reported. How set-asides work →

How the government buys landscaping work
- Service contracts over $2,500 fall under the Service Contract Act: the solicitation includes a Department of Labor wage determination, the minimum wages and fringe benefits you must pay on the contract. Price from it, not from your commercial rates.
- The VA's National Cemetery Administration and military installations are regular buyers. Contracts often specify mowing heights, cycles and quality inspections in a performance requirements summary.
- Pesticide and herbicide work usually requires a state applicator license, and some contracts ask for an arborist on the team.
Industry codes
Federal contracts are filed under NAICS industry codes. This page counts this one; each has its own page with every office that buys it and the newest awards.
- NAICS 561730 Landscaping Services · SBA small business size standard: Average annual receipts of $9.50 million or less
