48 CFR · Federal Acquisition Regulation and Defense supplement

FAR and DFARS navigator

The FAR is the Federal Acquisition Regulation (Title 48, chapter 1 of the Code of Federal Regulations): the rules every federal agency follows when it buys goods and services, from market research and set-asides to contract clauses. It is not the aviation rules (the Federal Aviation Regulations, Title 14). The DFARS is the Defense Department's supplement to it. Every part and section is here, searchable, with a plain-English guide to each part and answers cited to the sections.

The codified text (eCFR, as of 2026-10-13). Under the Revolutionary FAR Overhaul ↗, agencies follow class deviations with new text for many parts while the formal rules go through the Federal Register: check the solicitation and your contract's clauses, which rule.
